Chesapeake Bay Commission Resolution Encourages Trail Expansion, Treasured Landscapes, Conservation

May 7, 2010

The Chesapeake Bay Commission recently adopted a resolution encouraging actions to further land conservation, public access and tourism initiatives in the Chesapeake Bay watershed.  The resolution urges Congress and the Department of Interior to:

  • advance the implementation of the Capt. John Smith Chesapeake National Historic Trail and to designate, at the appropriate time, “connector trails;”
  • establish a Chesapeake Treasured Landscapes Fund;
  • and develop a strategy in response to the President's America’s Great Outdoors Initiative.
The resolution also commits the Commission to revise and update the 2001 report Keeping Our Commitment: Preserving Land in the Chesapeake Watershed in partnership with the Friends of the John Smith Trail.

For more information, please view the resolution.
